Zack Snyder's Justice League, film diretto da Zack Snyder, racconta come, dopo la morte di Superman, Batman (Ben Affleck) e Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) decidano di reclutare Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) e Cyborg (Ray Fisher) per mettere su una squadra di supereroi in grado di proteggere il mondo dalla minaccia di Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), a comando di diverse truppe di Parademoni.
I nemici vogliono impossessarsi delle tre Scatole Madri, che nelle mani sbagliate potrebbero causare danni di proporzioni catastrofiche. Mettere su una squadra, però, si rivela davvero difficile, perché prima di prendere parte alla battaglia contro Steppenwolf, ogni eroe dovrà prima affrontare i demoni del proprio passato.
Il film è considerato la versione originale di Justice League (2017), che dovrebbe riformare il ponte di continuità tra Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) e Aquaman (2018).
Subito dopo l'uscita nelle sale di Justice League (2017), l'hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut ha iniziato a circolare sul Web e a crescere sempre più di popolarità attraverso i social media. Solo nel maggio 2020 Snyder ha annunciato ufficialmente di aver preso in carico il progetto cinematografico.
La durata del film è di circa quattro ore, mentre il taglio cinematografico di Justice League (2017) è solo di due ore e utilizza meno del 10% del filmato già girato da Snyder.
