Men in Black è un film del 1997 diretto da Barry Sonnenfeld. James Edwards (Will Smith) è uno scapestrato agente di polizia di New York. Dopo aver intrapreso un rocambolesco inseguimento per arrestare un sospettato dotato di abilità eccezionali, che profetizza l’imminente distruzione del pianeta Terra, James cerca un confronto con i suoi superiori. Nessuno, ad eccezione della anatomopatologa Laurel Weaver (Linda Fiorentino), sembra credere al suo incredibile racconto. Ma i sospetti di James si rivelano fondati di lì a poco, grazie all'arrivo del misterioso agente K (Tommy Lee Jones), delegato dell’organizzazione segreta Men in Black (MiB). K, infatti, sembra credere al poliziotto e, dopo aver cancellato la memoria della Weaver, chiede a James di collaborare per far luce sulle reali intenzioni del criminale che si rivela essere un alieno. Dopo aver assistito all’incontro con Jeebs (Tony Shalhoub), un extraterrestre che gestisce una gioielleria sotto mentite spoglie, James è frastornato dal dover ammettere l’esistenza di un mondo segreto di alieni che popolano il pianeta.
