Il Padrino - Parte II è un film drammatico del 1974 diretto da Francis Ford Coppola, con Robert De Niro, James Caan, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall e Al Pacino.
La seconda parte della celebre trilogia affianca la giovinezza di Don Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro) parallelamente alle vicende che coinvolgeranno il figlio Michael (Al Pacino). È il 1901 e il giovane Vito Andolini (Oreste Baldini), dopo aver assistito all'omicidio della sua famiglia di origine, si salva scappando a New York, dove viene registrato con il cognome Corleone. Dapprima lavoratore onesto, subisce le angherie di Fanucci (Gastone Moschin), un boss mafioso locale e decide di ribellarsi, stringendo amicizie con altri malavitosi e iniziando alcune attività criminali. Uccide Fanucci e da lì comincia l'ascesa che lo porterà a diventare il potente boss mafioso Don Vito Corleone, a capo del contrabbando di alcolici e tabacchi, prostituzione, gioco d'azzardo illegale e racket. Ormai adulto e temuto, torna a Corleone e vendica la sua famiglia d'origine uccidendo l'ormai anziano assassino Don Ciccio (Giuseppe Sillato).
Con Michael Corleone, figlio di Don Vito, ci troviamo nel 1958, quando si trasferisce in Nevada per seguire il gioco d'azzardo di Las Vegas e Cuba, ma Hyman Roth (Lee Strasberg), ricco e potente ebreo a capo degli affari loschi cubani, non vede di buon occhio la sua presenza, tanto che cerca di eliminarlo prima con un agguato, poi più subdolamente con un processo per associazione criminale. Michael pianifica la sua vendetta e si trova a fronteggiare anche i tradimenti all'interno della sua famiglia, oltre che la perdita del bambino di cui la moglie Kay (Diane Keaton) è incinta. Proprio con lei avrà un acceso scontro a seguito di una sconcertante rivelazione che cambierà il loro rapporto, già incrinato dall'insofferenza di Kay per la vita violenta e pericolosa del marito e che lei sa già essere il futuro per suoi figli. A questo secondo capitolo de Il Padrino seguirà una terza ed ultima parte, Il Padrino - Parte III, uscito nel 1990.
