In una cittadina del Maine è arrivato il nuovo medico, Louis Creed. Con lui si trasferiscono anche la moglie, Rachel, e i due figli, Ellie e Gage. Vicino alla loro casa c'è un antico cimitero indiano che ha la caratteristica di trasformare in zombi i cadaveri che vi vengono sepolti. Succede così a Curch, il gattino di Ellie, e al piccolo Gage, travolto da un camion proprio sulla strada davanti a casa.
