La frustrazione per non essere divenuto un artista e il dissesto economico della Germania dopo la Prima guerra mondiale spingono il giovane Adolf Hitler a prodigarsi per il bene della sua nazione, sfruttando la crescente popolarità delle tesi nazionalsocialiste e antisemite esposte nel suo libro Mein Kampf. Nonostante l'opposizione del giornalista Fritz Gerlich e dell'editore Ernst Hanfstaengl, una mossa sbagliata del cancelliere Von Hinderburg ne favorisce l'ascesa politica mentre nel privato Hitler si ritrova a destreggiarsi prima con la storia d'amore fallita con Geli Raubal e dopo con la relazione con Eva Braun.
