

Nel 1936 ha inizio la vicenda di un falsificatore ebreo, Salomon Sorowitsch, arrestato dai nazisti per finire poi nel campo di concentramento di Mauthausen in un dipartimento detto "la gabbia d'oro", dove con uno staff di prigionieri, abili tipografi, viene ingaggiato a falsificare valuta e titoli di stato esteri, in modo da inflazionare e distruggere l'economia britannica e statunitense. Grazie soprattutto al tipografo Adolf Burger, che si rifiutava di aiutare i nazisti, la produzione di dollari viene iniziata ma boicottata.
