Walt Disney ha preso alcuni elementi dalla nota fiaba del Collodi, trasformandoli. Geppetto è divenuto un intagliatore di legno e fabbricante di giocattoli; Pinocchio è un pupazzetto vestito alla tirolese. Il grillo parlante è trasformato, non si sa bene perché, in un nanerottolo in cilindro e giubba, che ripete continuamente di essere la coscienza di Pinocchio, perché tutti, Pinocchio compreso, ne siano persuasi. La Fatina Azzurra è una graziosa fanciulla, che non ha nulla di fiabesco. La trama segue, negli episodi essenziali, il racconto di Collodi, ma dell'atmosfera poetica, dell'atmosfera morale create dal genio dello scrittore toscano, qui non c'è traccia. C'è invece una serie d'invenzioni tecniche, di fantasie cromatiche e musicali, degne d'interesse, ed anche, in certi punti, d'ammirazione.
