


Sotto il pavimento di una grande casa nella campagna di Tokyo, vive la quattordicenne Arrietty con la madre e il padre. Sono una famiglia di “rubacchiotti”, alti dieci centimetri, che prendono in prestito dagli umani tutto ciò che serve loro per sopravvivere ma in piccolissime quantità, in modo che nessuno se ne accorga e possa scoprire la loro esistenza. Arrietty, però, in una delle sue incursioni nel giardino della casa viene vista da Sho, un ragazzino umano di 12 anni che soggiorna lì, presso la zia, in attesa di una rischiosa operazione al cuore. Nonostante la cosa scateni il terrore nei genitori, che si preparano immediatamente a traslocare, Arrietty capisce di potersi fidare di Sho e tra i due nasce una breve ma importante amicizia.
