In Wonderland Avenue, nell'estate del 1981, si consuma un crimine efferato: quattro persone che stanno partecipando a un festino a base di cocaina vengono brutalmente assassinate. Nelle indagini il "re del porno" John Holmes risulta essere il principale indiziato. Al momento dei fatti, a soli 37 anni, Holmes è sull'orlo del declino fisico e finanziario. Ha una moglie, Sharon e una fidanzata adolescente, Down Schiller e oltre a intrattenere stretti rapporti con molti spacciatori ha dei legami con il gangster Eddy Nash.
