1942. L'esercito sovietico pianifica un attacco contro le forze naziste che occupano metà della città di Stalingrado sul lato del Volga. Solo pochi soldati riescono però ad attraversare il fiume e trovano rifugio in una casa sulla riva, abitata da una ragazza che non è scappata all'arrivo dei tedeschi. Mentre in questo luogo improbabile fiorisce una storia d'amore, gli eroi di Stanlingrado dovranno prepararsi ad affrontare una sanguinosa battaglia che cambierà le sorti della guerra a favore degli Alleati.
