All'indomani della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, Preston Tucker, geniale inventore, lavora intorno a un rivoluzionario modello automobilistico destinato a lasciarsi alle spalle tutto ciò che le grandi case hanno fino ad allora realizzato. Con l'aiuto di pochi amici pone le basi finanziarie per la fabbrica che dovrà produrlo. Ma non ha fatto i conti con lo strapotere delle grandi industrie di Detroit...Identificandosi con il geniale costruttore obbligato ad abbandonare il suo progetto ma non i suoi sogni, Coppola realizza un film carico d'energia: una sorta di entusiastico omaggio ai grandi perdenti.
