Dopo aver abbandonato il continente africano, il leone Alex, la zebra Marty, la giraffa Melman e l'ippopotamo Gloria stanno ancora cercando faticosamente di ritornare al loro amato zoo di New York ma, questa volta, complici una serie di disavventure, finiscono per ritrovarsi in Europa, dove si aggregano a un circo ambulante, mettendo in piedi uno spettacolo nel loro particolare e divertente stile.
