Il 12 ottobre 1978 il cadavere di Nancy Spungen viene trovato in una stanza del Chelsea Hotel accanto a Sid Vicious, drogato e in stato catatonico. I due si erano conosciuti ad un party un anno prima, quando lui era ancora il bassista dei Sex Pistols. Il film ripercorre la storia del musicista, dai suoi tentativi di sfondare come solista dopo lo scioglimento del gruppo punk (falliti per colpa della droga), fino al doppio suicidio progettato con Nancy. Il ritmo e l'adesione del regista sono innegabili, e le performances dei protagonisti di alto livello.
