In un futuro prossimo, il governo giapponese recluta un gruppo di studenti liceali per farlo partecipare alla rivoluzionaria Battle Royale. Equipaggiati con un'arma scelta dal caso e alcune razioni di acqua e cibo, gli studenti vengono lasciati per tre giorni su un'isola deserta e loro compito è quello di uccidersi a vicenda in un gioco che, senza esclusioni di colpi e con poche regole, dovrà lasciare in vita un solo vincitore.
