Nell'adrenalitico mondo delle corse automobilistiche il pilota Jimmy Bly, ancora incapace di esprimere il suo talento, è in grave crisi a causa delle pressioni del fratello manager e degli incerti esiti della relazione sentimentale che ha intrecciato con Sophia, fidanzata del suo rivale Brandenburg. Deciso a sostenere Jimmy, il proprietario della scuderia, Carl Henry, chiede aiuto a Jo Tanto, una ex promessa del volante la cui carriera è stata stroncata da un tragico incidente in cui ha perso la vita un altro pilota. Per spingere Jimmy al vertice, Jo deve rivivere il suo triste passato, sfuggire alle pressioni di una giornalista invadente ed incontrare di nuovo, dopo anni, la sua ex moglie Cathy, ora compagna di un altro pilota.
