Il protagonista della vicenda è Dave Lizewski (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), un anonimo studente di New York che coltiva una sfrenata passione per i fumetti e per i supereroi. Annoiato dalla vita monotona della metropoli, Dave decide di dare una svolta alla sua vita e diventare come uno dei protagonisti che tanto ammira. Per questo, il ragazzo acquista una bizzarra tuta verde integrale su internet e si ribattezza Kick-Ass. Armato di manganelli, Dave attraversa le strade della città ma la sua prima missione non va come previsto.
