Una ricostruzione dei fatti della celebre evacuazione di Dunkirk, quando, agli inizi della Seconda guerra mondiale, decine di migliaia di uomini delle truppe britanniche e delle forze alleate si ritrovarono circondati dalle forze nemiche. Intrappolati sulla spiaggia, con le spalle al mare e i tedeschi che avanzavano, i soldati dovettero così affrontare una situazione caotica ed estremamente difficile: l'operazione di salvataggio che venne messe in atto passò poi alla storia con il nome altisonante di "miracolo di Dunkirk".
