La cosa è un film del 1982 diretto da John Carpenter, tratto dal racconto La cosa da un altro mondo di John W. Campbell.
Antartide. In una base scientifica statunitense lavora un team di ricercatori composto dal comandante Garry, il pilota MacReady (Kurt Russel), il medico Cooper, i biologi Blair e Fouchs, il meteorologo Bennings, il geologo Norris, il tecnico radio Windows, i meccanici Childs (Keith David) e Palmer, l’addetto ai cani Clark e il cuoco Nauls.
Un giorno viene richiamata la loro attenzione dal rumore provocato da un elicottero norvegese proveniente da una base di ricerca non molto lontana da loro. A bordo ci sono due persone che sparano e lanciano granate verso un cane che corre nella neve. Dopo l’atterraggio, lo stesso pilota rimane vittima di un'esplosione.
