I dieci comandamenti, è un film del 1956 diretto da Cecil B. DeMille. In Egitto, il popolo ebraico è ridotto in schiavitù dal faraone Ramesse I (Ian Keith). Quest’ultimo, turbato dalla profezia degli astrologi di corte che lo informano dell'esistenza di un prescelto che libererà gli israeliti per condurli nella terra promessa, ordina al suo esercito di uccidere tutti i neonati maschi per scongiurare la minacciosa prospettiva futura.
Venuta a conoscenza dei piani del faraone, la schiava Jocabel (Martha Scott) affida suo figlio neonato alle acque del fiume Nilo. Le preghiere della donna sono esaudite, dal momento che il bambino è trovato dalla principessa Bithia (Nina Foch) la quale, essendo sterile, lo adotta credendo che il neonato sia un dono del fiume. Così Mosè (Charlton Heston) cresce a palazzo e diventa un valoroso condottiero.
