The Doorman, film diretto da Ryûhei Kitamura, racconta la storia di Ali (Ruby Rose), un ex marine, che durante una missione a Bucarest era stata incaricata insieme ai suoi commilitoni di proteggere il convoglio che trasportava la figlia dell'ambasciatore. A causa di un'imboscata di alcuni mercenari, lo stesso ambasciatore e la figlia muoiono, motivo per cui Ali viene dimessa dal corpo dei marines. Ora la donna lavora come portiere nel lussuoso Carrington Hotel di New York e passa le giornate in compagnia del suo collega Borz (Aksel Hennie) e stringendo conoscenza con gli ospiti. Nello stesso hotel si trovano anche il marito della sua defunta sorella, Jon Stanton (Rupert Evans), con il quale Ali ha avuto tempo prima una relazione, e i suoi figli Max e Lily.
