Sullo sfondo di un'accademia militare, un gruppo di giovani cadetti si addestrano per essere la prossima generazione di soldati in guerra contro gli insorti dei pianeti esterni coloniali. Tra questi cadetti, Thomas Lasky lotta con i suoi dubbi su questa guerra, e con il peso delle aspettative che non puòessere in grado di portare. Quando Lasky riesce a diventare capo militare, la terrificante alleanza conosciuta come Covenant scatena una enorme guerra contro gli umani. Ispirato da un misterioso alleato conosciuto come Master Chief, Lasky deve decidere che cosa significa essere un eroe.
