Due partiture con un tono di giusta furia tessuta dappertutto. Mentre ci sono differenze nell'approccio ai due spartiti, Quincy Jones è riuscito a fornire uno stile unificante - non è un'impresa da poco, considerando che l'intento dietro In the Heat of the Night era quello di ottenere un'atmosfera del sud, infusa dal blues per supportare l'approccio rabbioso e antirazzista della foto, mentre They Call Me Misters Tibbs! aveva un atteggiamento urbano più aperto dal suo ambiente di San Francisco.
La musica dappertutto ha un vantaggio (la musica più leggera nella seconda partitura è generalmente musica sorgente), con alcuni interessanti esperimenti musicali in corso (Jones, ad esempio, ha usato il cimbalom per riflettere i sentimenti di Tibbs in They Call Me Mister Tibbs !.)
L'uscita del CD Ryko include una porzione CD migliorata con materiale cinematografico. Il suono in tutto il disco è eccellente, anche se gli spunti di In the Heat of the Night mostrano la loro età e gli estratti dei dialoghi sembrano molto approssimativi.
