Il tredicesimo album in studio di Passenger, Songs for the Drunk and Broken Hearted del 2021, vede il cantante / cantautore Mike Rosenberg attingere alle sue varie influenze pop mentre mostra di nuovo la sua voce strutturata e l'abilità per le melodie folk.

Registrato nei suoi Black Crow Studios di Brighton, in Inghilterra, l'album arriva sulla scia del suo intimo LP acustico 2020 Patchwork, che ha registrato mentre era in isolamento durante la pandemia COVID-19. È interessante notare che Rosenberg ha effettivamente registrato Songs for the Drunk e Broken Hearted prima di Patchwork e sulla scia della fine di una relazione.

Successivamente, c'è una qualità catartica e di ricerca dell'anima nell'album che sembra come se Rosenberg stesse lavorando sulle sue emozioni durante la rottura. L'apertura di "Sword from a Stone", di cui ha incluso anche una versione diversa su Patchwork, sembra parlare direttamente del suo stato d'animo post-rottura.
