Trama:Nella New York dei nostri giorni, un giovane studente di college (Baruchel) è costretto suo malgrado ad accettare un lavoro come assistente ed apprendista per uno stregone di nome Balthazar Blake (Cage). Presso di lui, il ragazzo sarà addestrato a combattere contro le forze del male che incombono sulla moderna Manhattan, orchestrate da un altro stregone, il perfido Horvath (Molina), aiutato dal più giovane illusionista Drake Stone (Kebbel).
