Trama:Gus Lobel (Clint Eastwood), uno scopritore di talenti del baseball ormai sul viale del tramonto, sta lentamente ma inesorabilmente perdendo la vista. Prima che questa sia ormai del tutto compromessa, decide di fare un viaggio fino alla Carolina del Nord per incontrare un giovane promettente giocatore (Joe Massingill). Lo accompagna la figlia Mickey (Amy Adams), con cui i rapporti sono da tempo compromessi, ma la situazione si complicherà quando sul loro percorso incontrano Johnny (Justin Timberlake), un giovane talent scout rivale di cui Mickey si innamora.
