Trama:La storia comincia in Egitto, al Cairo, dove, durante la prima guerra mondiale nel 1916, Lawrence (Peter O'Toole), ufficiale inglese, lavora come cartografo. È un uomo dotato di una grande preparazione umanistica, esperto di architettura, amante della cultura arabo-islamica. Gli viene affidata una missione: arrivare in Arabia, contattare il colonnello Brighton (Anthony Quayle), che lavora come consulente dell'emiro Faisal (Alec Guinness) e servire, quindi, da ponte di collegamento con gli arabi e gli inglesi nella lotta contro i turchi.
