The Flaming Lips è una rock band americana formata nel 1983 a Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Il gruppo ha registrato diversi album ed EP su un'etichetta indipendente, Restless, negli anni '80 e nei primi anni '90. Dopo aver firmato con Warner Brothers, pubblicarono il loro primo disco con Warner, Hit to Death in the Future Head (1992). Successivamente pubblicarono The Soft Bulletin (1999), che era l'album dell'anno della rivista NME, e poi Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002). Nel febbraio 2007, sono stati nominati per un BRIT Award come "Best International Act". Il gruppo ha vinto tre Grammy Awards, di cui due per la migliore performance strumentale rock. Sono stati inseriti nella lista della rivista Q delle "50 bande da vedere prima di morire" nel 2002.
